It reads: &#8220;life, liberty, and the pursuit of more patents. AT&amp;T: Averaging 2 patent applications per day. Proudly connecting political supporters in Minneapolis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/images\/posts\/patentreform.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n    <i>Photo by Matt Yglesias at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.<\/i><br \/>\n  <br \/>\n  It&#8217;s interesting that AT&amp;T is bragging about its pursuit of &#8220;more patents&#8221; rather than, say, more R&amp;D spending or more innovation. AT&amp;T isn&#8217;t exactly known for its record of high-tech innovation, so it&#8217;s a little surprising to see it hold itself out as a poster child for the patent system\u2014particularly when we remember that AT&amp;T and other telco incumbents have used the patent system to <a href=\"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20071108\/152017.shtml\">extort tens of millions of dollars<\/a> from companies like Vonage that are <i>actually<\/i> innovating.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20080901\/1010232136.shtml\"><p>\n  <br \/>\n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.techdirt.com\/~r\/techdirt\/feed\/~4\/382501513\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" \/> [From <a href=\"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20080901\/1010232136.shtml\"><cite>Life, Liberty And The Pursuit Of More Patents?<\/cite><\/a>]\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Aside from the &#8220;companies like Vonage that are actually innovating&#8221; bit Timothy gets it right.
