Today Amazon announces EC2 is no longer beta &#8211; which is good. The important part of the announcement for me is the roadmap they hint at.<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/techcrunchIt\/~3\/79tf5O0aV2A\/\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"shot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunchit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/ec2-diagram.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cloud computing keeps advancing like rolling thunder. Amazon today announced a <a href=\"http:\/\/aws.typepad.com\/aws\/2008\/10\/big-day-for-ec2.html\">major upgrade<\/a> to its EC2 compute cloud service and Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim has decided to spend more time at his startup <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aristanetworks.com\/\">Arista Networks,<\/a> which sells 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches aimed at handling the loads at cloud-computing data centers. And just yesterday, RackSpace announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2008\/10\/22\/rackspace-acquires-jungledisk-slicehost-to-take-on-amazon-web-services\/\">two small acquisitions<\/a> to help it better compete against Amazon in the cloud computing as well.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest news today comes from Amazon, which is staking the \u201cbeta\u201d label off of its EC2 service and announcing the following upgrades:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Amazon EC2 is now in full production. The beta label is gone.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>There\u2019s now an SLA (Service Level Agreement) for EC2.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Microsoft Windows is now available in beta form on EC2.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Microsoft SQL Server is now available in beta form on EC2.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>We plan to release an interactive AWS management console.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>We plan to release new load balancing, automatic scaling, and cloud monitoring services.<span style=\"font-style:normal;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/feedads.googleadservices.com\/~a\/G-cJAwz1xIXwjvtozpJ7J6gOIzo\/a\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feedads.googleadservices.com\/~a\/G-cJAwz1xIXwjvtozpJ7J6gOIzo\/i\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/techcrunchIt\/~4\/79tf5O0aV2A\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" \/> [From <a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/techcrunchIt\/~3\/79tf5O0aV2A\/\"><cite>The Cloud Is Shaping Up. They are the only reason I&#8217;m not using EC2 for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosinity.com\" title=\"cosinity - communications applications that deliver\">cosinity&#8217;s<\/a> servers.
