
{"id":23,"date":"2007-04-26T14:13:45","date_gmt":"2007-04-26T21:13:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/briantroy.com\/blog\/?p=23"},"modified":"2007-04-26T14:13:45","modified_gmt":"2007-04-26T21:13:45","slug":"adobe-open-sources-parts-of-flex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.briantroy.com\/index.php\/2007\/04\/26\/adobe-open-sources-parts-of-flex\/","title":{"rendered":"Adobe Open Sources (parts of) Flex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Adobe announced last night that they are open sourcing big parts of Flex (scoop by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Scoble\" title=\"Scoble Wiki\">Robert Scoble<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>You can see the video interview on Scoble&#8217;s blog for detail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scobleizer.com\/2007\/04\/25\/adobe-opensources-flex\/trackback\/\" title=\"Scoble Blog Entry\">Link to Scoble&#8217;s Blog Entry<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are two ways to look at this announcement:<\/p>\n<p>1) Adobe is using this as ammunition in it&#8217;s war with Microsoft&#8230; Specifically to attack <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/silverlight\/asp\/default.aspx\" title=\"Silverlight Home Page\">Silverlight<\/a> prior to release.<\/p>\n<p>2) Adobe is refining their business model in this space to focus on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rich_Internet_application\" title=\"Wikipedia - RIA\">Rich Internet Application<\/a> platforms (Media Server, Apollo) and less on the revenue generated from the developer tools.<\/p>\n<p>While I love the anti-Microsoft hype as much as the next guy&#8230; having an understanding of Adobe&#8217;s business practices leads me to believe this is <em><strong>more about a refinement of the business model<\/strong><\/em> and less a reaction to Silverlight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adobe announced last night that they are open sourcing big parts of Flex (scoop by Robert Scoble).
